Kvarngymnasiet is an upper secondary school with 300 students
and approximately 85 members of the staff, teachers, counsellors,
social workers, assistants and administrationstaff.
The students get their education in different groups depending
on their interests and their capacity. Each student has an
individual syllabus within the set frames of the syllabus.
The staff is working in six different teams and every team
consists of teachers, counsellors, assistants and social
workers.
This is what we offer our students:
Preparatory courses for upper secondary school education (1
year)
The
students who don´t have enough grades to attend the Upper
Secondary school are given the opportunity to study matematichs,
Swedish and English to repair and strengthen their grades. They
can also choose to study other subjects e.g sportactivities, art
education, music, dance, health and handicraft.
Vocational training
(1 year)
The course is designed for a student who wants to prepare
himself for a programme in a special vocational field.
The students can combine studies and practical work in order to
be able to decide what programme to choose in the Upper
Secondary School.
1-2 days a week the students learn Swedish,
English, civics and mathematics.
3-4 days are spent at an enterprise.
Small tuition groups (1-4 years)
Students
who have different disabilities such as learning-disabilities,
social-disabilities, Aspbergersyndrome, Autism are taught
individually in small groups.Together with the counsellors we
aim at finding a way into the labourmarket for these students.
We cooperate with other organizations and local authorities. T
SFI
- Swedish for Immigrants (1-3 years)
This is
a course for immigrants who have recently arrived in Sweden or
have been here a short time.
The students study mainly Swedish but also civics and practical
subjects such as woodwork, textile craft, cooking and visual
arts.
IVIK - The individual programme preparatory course for the upper
secondary school (1-3 years)
A course
for anyone whose original language is not Swedish and who wants
to improve his or her knowledge of Swedish to be able to
complete a theoretical or practical education in the upper
secondary school.
The
subjects the students study are Swedish as a second language,
mathematics, civics, science and physical education. The main
focus is on Swedish.
Boating and Life at Sea/ Wood- and Furniture Construction (3-4
years)
A
specially designed programme.
The mainsubjects are: navigation,theoretically and practically
life, woodwork, welding, boatrepairing, enginemechanics,
sailing. At our disposal we have several big and small boats,
which we repair and improve during the winter season. We also
have a big machinery for woodwork and welding.
Of course
the students also study subjects as Swedish, English,
mathematics, civics, science, religion and sports.
The educational aim is:
- General competence for further studies with an opportunity of
supplementary studies to obtain special competence.
- Nautical competence - general and advanced.
- General knowledge of how to handle special tools and machines
needed when having the boat serviced.
- Knowledge of sailing equivalent to the requirements for step
two by NFB.
- Basic knowledge of different woodmaterials and how to work
with them.
- Basic knowledge of different methods of measurements.
- Basic knowledge of tools and how to handle machines safely.
Tourism and Service (3-4 years)
A Specially Designed Programme.
This programme aims at, after three-four years of studies,
having given the student good knowledge and basic skills to
apply for a job within the growing tourism- and service
branches.
The students study subjects as as marketing, tourismgeography,
otel-knowledge.
Of course
the students also study subjects as Swedish, English,
Mathematics, Civics, Science, Religion and Sports.
Performing Arts (3-4 years)
A
Specially Designed Programme.
The students study various subjects within dance,
music, acting, stageproduction.
Of course the
students also study subjects as Swedish, English, mathematics,
civics, science, religion and sports.
The students perform their own productions at special occations.
Upper secondary Apprenticeship Training (3 years)
A
Specially Designed programme.
The education is an combination of 2 days’ school studies and 3
days’ vocational training.At school the students study subjects
as Swedish, English, Mathematics, Science, Civics, Religion.
The vocational training takes place at an enterprise.
Kvarngymnasiet is designed to give the students the best
